When Caitlyn Boyle looked at herself in a bathroom mirror 14 years ago, she didn’t like what she saw. And the negative self-talk coming from the voice inside her head reinforced what she saw and felt in that moment. Feelings of doubt and worthlessness and all sorts of negative thoughts had snuck their way into her mind. And when she recognized what was happening, she instinctively wrote her now famous note “You Are Beautiful” to herself and in that moment created a movement that has positively impacted the lives of thousands of women and men around the world.
Okay, here is the honest truth … We ALL have had such moments. Moments, days, weeks, months, heck maybe years where we have beat ourselves up, put ourselves and down and diminished our own self-worth. I am willing to bet even the most seemingly confident women in the world have had their own battles with their inner saboteurs.
Take me for instance. As I discussed earlier in the podcast, I’m pretty confident in certain areas of my life and in other areas, I still struggle to be more loving and accepting of myself. And despite knowing about all the benefits that come with creating a Stronger Sense of Self, which is foundational to The Aquitaine Project mission, my personal little saboteurs can still get in the way of what I think and how I feel about myself … if I let them. The key is not to let them. Easier said than done … I know, I know.
But here is the beauty of Operation Beautiful. Whether we write them to ourselves, I do all the time, to friends and family, to co-workers or leave them for random strangers to find, I believe those little colorful sticky notes have the power to change lives.
For me, Caitlyn Boyle’s “Operation Beautiful” lights the way for each of us to shine a light for others and, create happier, healthier relationships with our most intimate partners, ourselves.
